The Deck is Down, the Rafters are Up
The deck as of Nov. 13. It is complete but for the missing boards between the posts. |
The rafters are installed. |
Temporary boards over the stair hole. |
Yet another view. |
Special thanks to Forrest Macgregor who spent many hours with me putting down the deck and raising the rest of the rafters.

Goalposts are Up
Putting together the first set of posts and beam. |
First set is up. Starting to get wet. |
Making progress. |
Almost done. |
Another view. |
Looks like there's actually going to be a house here. |
Many, many thanks to Jon, Matt and Rich, who worked with good humor on a cold and rainy day. I'm grateful for their help. Equal thanks to Forrest, who spend a long day with me making sure the sills were properly spaced and helping to build the beams.

Insulation and Radiant Heat Tubing
The builder. The blue insulation and tubing for the radiant heat were installed yesterday and the day before. The slab will be poured Friday if the weather cooperates. |

Foundation and Plumbing
9/14/10 Footings are in. Forms for frost walls begun. |
Pouring the frost walls. |
Walls with the forms removed. |
9/20/10 Starting to back fill. The machine in the center is a compactor, which I had the pleasure of spending several hours behind. A lot like using a lawn mower, but much heavier. |
9/21/10 Sewer lines inside the house being installed. |

The Building Lot
View of the lot towards the road from back of lot. You can see the string that outlines the house footprint if you look carefully.
The lot includes the trees in the foreground and goes back just beyond the line of tall, red pines in the background. |
Small bush on right same as in first photo. Right side of photo is just about where the property line is. The house will fit in the sun-lit clearing. |
View down to Ayers Brook, which borders the lot. |
